Important Updated Student Technology Policies

Posted Date: 7/30/25 (6:00 PM)

Parents,
As we begin a new school year, we want to make you aware of some important updates to the ROMP 1-to-1 Student Device Policy. Both you and your student will be required to review and sign the updated policy. A copy is attached to this post for your convenience.

Grades 7–12
  • A signed physical copy of the updated handbook is required from both the student and parent before a device will be issued.
  • You may print the policy from the attached document, or pick up a copy at Meet the Teacher. We just need the back page of the agreement signed and returned.
  • Free repairs will no longer be offered.
Last year, repair costs totaled enough to purchase two full classroom sets of new Chromebooks. We urge you to speak with your student about proper device care, especially when carrying devices in backpacks.
    • Typical repair costs:
      • Cracked screen or missing charger: $40
      • Hinge damage, top cover issues, or damaged charging ports requiring a motherboard replacement: $150+
      • Devices beyond repair: $400 replacement fee
    • Prices may vary based on part or device cost.
  • No personalization is allowed.
Students may not apply stickers, draw on, or mark devices in any way. Cleanup or sticker removal will result in a $20 fee. Last year, several devices required significant cleaning due to heavy sticker use or markings.

Elementary Students
  • Parents will sign the device agreement with their child’s homeroom teacher during Meet the Teacher.
  • While elementary students do not take devices home, they are assigned a device in each classroom. If damage occurs and it is determined to be intentional or due to misuse, parents will be charged the same repair or replacement fees as listed above.
  • In situations where responsibility cannot be determined, repair costs may be split among the students assigned to that device.

We understand that budgets are tight—we feel it at the school as well. Reducing repair costs allows us to redirect those funds toward replacing aging devices and improving classroom technology. Please help us reinforce with your student the importance of taking care of their school-issued device.
Thank you for your support in helping us provide the best possible learning tools for our students.
